Minimum score required for Federal Skilled Worker Program

 The Federal Skilled Worker Program is one of the three programs managed by the globally-renowned Express Entry System. The Federal Skilled Worker Program allows immigrants with relevant work experience and no connection to Canada – to apply for permanent residency. 

Just as every other program under the Express Entry, the FSWP also uses a point-based system to select eligible candidates. But, unlike the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), candidates applying for permanent residency under the FSWP are not mandated to have Canadian work experience in order to enter the Express Entry pool. Instead, candidates are just required to have a qualifying score in the CRS points calculator. 

Scores in the CRS points calculator are assigned based on factors such as Age, Education, Work Experience, Language Proficiency, Provincial Nomination, Adaptability, and so on. Candidates showcasing a strong CRS score, have higher chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency.

Eligibility for Federal Skilled Worker Program

In order to qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, a candidate must meet certain minimum requirements regarding years of experience, level of education, age, and English or French language proficiency:

  • Work Experience: At least 12 months of continuous, full-time, skilled work experience completed within the previous 10 years (or an equal amount of part-time experience). Skilled work experience refers to experience classified under NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B.

  • Language Proficiency: Reach a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 or 6.0 in each section of the IELTS, which is the minimum IELTS score for Canada PR.

  • Education: A minimum of a Canadian high school diploma or the equivalent in foreign education.

  • Financial Support: Enough funds to support themselves and any spouse and/or children in their settlement in Canada.

  • Residence in Canada: Must intend to live outside of the province of Quebec.

What is the minimum score required for the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

In order to qualify under Express Entry’s Federal Skilled Worker Program, you would be required to achieve at least 67 points out of the total 100 in the Federal Skilled Worker Program point grid.
