Is there an age limit to apply for Canada PR from India?

How important is your age when you immigrate to Canada from India? The Canadian government is always on the lookout for young immigrants between the ages of 18 and 35. Hence, candidates applying for a Canada PR within this age gap, have a slight advantage over other candidates.

Concerns regarding the age limit for Canada PR are becoming more common. So, is there an age limit to apply for Canada PR from India?

Although age might affect your chances to immigrate to Canada from India – it is important that it is not a determining element. There are certain ways to reclaim points lost in the CRS score calculator for the “Age” factor.

What is the CRS score?

Every candidate applying for Canada PR under the Express Entry is assigned a CRS score based on certain human capital, skills transferability, and additional factors. Such factors usually include Education, Work Experience, Language Proficiency, Adaptability, Provincial Nomination, Spousal Sponsorship, and Age.

Candidates with the highest scores in the Express Entry pool are issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR in an Express Entry draw – usually held every two weeks.

Is there an age limit to apply for Canada PR?

There is no age limit to immigrate to Canada from India as a permanent resident.

Being above the ideal age bracket (18-35) may award candidates with the maximum age – this does not, however, exclude older applications from being considered. Candidates between the ages of 18 and 35 will earn the maximum number of points, whereas after 35 years – they will lose 1 point per year until they reach the age of 47. Therefore, age is not a limiting factor, as long as candidates meet the minimal requirements for other factors of the CRS score calculator.

How to recover CRS points lost because of Age?

Candidates can always make up for the loss of points by scoring extra on other factors such as Education and Work Experience.

The CRS score calculator awards a maximum of 110 points to single applicants and 100 points to those applying with a spouse. These points are awarded to candidates between the ages of 20 and 29. The more distance you are from this goal, the fewer points you will receive. Candidates above the age of 45 are not awarded any points.

Being able to claim maximum points in any factor will undoubtedly boost your chances to immigrate to Canada from India. Being above the “Ideal Age” range does not preclude you from being competitive. Here are some alternatives for boosting CRS points lost because of your age.

  • Skills Transferability factors: You can gain extra points for additional experience in the Skills Transferability factors. For instance, three or more years of work experience with CLB 9 can help you earn 50 extra points.

  • Job offer: Although a job offer is not required to immigrate to Canada from India – it does, however, significantly increase your chances of receiving a Canada PR. Securing a job offer from a Canadian employer can help you gain anywhere between 50 and 200 additional points.

  • Provincial Nomination: Getting nominated from a Canadian province under a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) not only boosts your CRS score but also – guarantees your chances of receiving a Canada PR.

Take Away

Is there an age limit to immigrate to Canada from India as a permanent resident? NO! Although “Age” plays a crucial role in the CRS score calculator – there are alternatives to the points lost in the Age factors such as Skills Transferability, Job offer, and Provincial Nomination.
